To fly different kinds of helicopter, you require a ‘type rating’ for each specific type on your licence. In order to keep your type rating valid you must also complete a ‘proficiency check’ (PC) each year with an examiner.
The 4-seat Robinson R44 is the world’s most popular helicopter, with over 5,000 models produced since 1993. The R44 offers similar handling characteristics and performance to our R66, with high reliability, fuel economy and excellent safety features as well as hydraulically assisted controls – at an affordable price. Our R44 is fitted with emergency pop-out floats, increasing safety on journeys over water.
The high-performance R44 Clipper II has a Lycoming IO-540 fuel injected, tuned-induction engine, which eliminates the need for carburettor heat. The standard 28-volt electrical system ensures good starting performance in hot or cold weather and provides additional electrical power for optional equipment.
Our helicopter is fitted with USB chargers for on-the-go power, a GNS430 with a secondary radio and bubble windows for enhanced viewing & cabin space.

The type rating is usually conducted on a full-time basis and must be completed within 6 months of starting your training. After completing the course, there is a practical flying test with a CAA approved examiner to assess your competence at handling the aircraft.
Your instructor will ensure that you complete all the required flight training. Our objective is simple – to ensure that you are ready to fly the new helicopter type safely and with confidence.
